Iza Calzado says watching birthing videos is so traumatic

“Maganda rin ‘yong challenge. Never pa ako nakakita ng nanganganak. Hindi pa ako nanganak,” said Iza Calzado on portraying for the first time the role of a midwife in Sheryl Rose Andes’ “Pandanggo sa Hukay,” a finalist of Cinemalaya 2019.

“So ang intensyon talaga is for me to go the clinic, but noong nag-film sila, I was away. Nagworkshop lang kami sa UST and sa ibang lying-in clinics. Nanood lang ako ng mga pelikula, mga Youtube content on birthing, which I do not encourage you to watch. It’s traumatic,” confessed Iza.

“Pandanggo sa Hukay” is a crime-drama movie that depicts how a small-town midwife’s preparation for a job interview is disrupted by series of unfortunate turn of events.

The cast includes Ybes Bagadiong, Acey Aguilar, Diva Montelaba, Charlie Dizon, Star Orjaliza, Mercedes Cabral, Sarah Pagcaliwagan-Brakensiek.

Catch “Pandanggo Sa Hukay” at the 15th Cinemalaya from Aug. 2 to 11 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and in selected cinemas nationwide. The wide commercial theatrical run begins on Aug. 7 to 13. (Report by Daisy Liezel Cuison)
