Alvin Yapan on John Lloyd Cruz joining “Culion” “Hindi kami nahirapan sa kanya”

“He wants to be recognized as an artist. He is a serious actor. He really wants to focus on his performance and not on his status (as a celebrity),“ said director Alvin Yapan when asked about John Lloyd Cruz and the actor’s return on the big screen via the movie ‘Culion.”

Last night (Sept 30), the teaser and trailer of “Culion” was launched, with Alvin, lead actors Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Joem Bascon, Mike Liwag, and producer Mark Shandii Bacolod in attendance.

With his surprise appearance in the last part of the teaser of the historical drama, John Lloyd has finally ended his break from acting. Everyone was surprised by his big comeback after being away for over two years.

“Hindi kami nahirapan sa kanya. That’s what I love about John Lloyd. If he loves the material, he goes for it.” added Alvin.

John Lloyd started  his career with appearances in numerous teen-oriented movies and TV shows like “Tabing Ilog” and soap operas like “It Might Be You,”  “Maging Sino Ka Man,” “I Love Betty La Fea” and “Imortal.”  He is considered one of the most-acclaimed actors in the country today.

“Culion” is a story of hope that aims to break the stigma associated with leprosy. It is written by the award-winning screen writer Ricky Lee and produce by Mark Shandii Bacolod under iOptions Ventures.

The cast and team of ‘Culion” is vying for its inclusion at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival in December. (Report by Daisy Liezel Cuison )
