NCCA’s new ambassadors celebrates the annual festival of PH culture and arts this february’s “Ani ng Sining”

The annual celebration of National Arts Month started with the signing of Presidential Proclamation 683, in 1991, declaring February as National Arts Month. Over the years, NCCA, as well as private and government agencies, has been organizing events and activities to highlight the artistic brilliance of the Filipinos   Headed by its chairman, Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso, executive director Al Ryan Alejandre and deputy executive director Marichu Tellano. Spearheaded by NCCA’s Subcommission on the Arts (SCA), led by its commissioner Teddy Co, Ani ng Sining: Philippine Arts Festival is a series of events in different parts of the country featuring exhibits, workshops, shows, concerts, lectures, tours and others in the seven fields of the arts. These events aim to showcase the richness of artistic endeavors and heritage of local communities as well as support and empower the numerous artists in these communities.

Highlighting the bountiful harvest of Philippine arts, Ani ng Sining: Philippine Arts Festival is mainly composed of the flagship projects of SCA’s seven national committees—Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Literary Arts, Music, Dramatic Arts and Visual Arts.The National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts, headed by Rogelio D. Caringal .Headed by Teddy Co, the National Committee on Cinema will hold the twelfth installment of Cinema Rehiyon Film Festival, a non-competition film festival which highlights some of the best works from the regions . The National Committee on Dance, headed by Shirley Halili-Cruz, The National Committee on Dramatic Arts, headed by Rossana Q. Palm, The National Committee on Literary Arts, headed by Dr. Hope S. Yu,  The National Committee on Music, headed by Dr. Mauricia D. Borromeo, The National Committee on Visual Arts, headed by Edgar Talusan Fernandez, will mount the Philippine Visual Arts Festival (PVAF)

As a tradition now for several years, the Ani ng Sining will close with Ani ng Dangal awarding ceremonies.  The Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honors) Awards recognizes artists who have earned international awards and accolades during the past year.

NCCA will also hold opening programs for NAM in the National Capital Region (NCR), Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The Visayas opening program will be hosted by Ormoc City, Leyte, on January 31. For NCR, the opening program will be held at the Rizal Park, Manila, on February 1, featuring workshops on the seven arts, performances as well as short film screening. For Luzon leg, it will be held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, on February 4

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray joins the NCCA as it celebrates NAM as the new Arts Ambassador. Gray is also popular for incorporating indigenous textiles and materials on her outfits during the Miss Universe pageant. Prior to winning the Miss Universe crown in 2018, Gray joined the Miss World Philippines 2016 and one of the top 5 finalists on Miss World pageant in Maryland. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and later achieved a Master Certificate in Music Theory. She also works closely with Young Focus Philippines, an education based non-government organization supporting free education and sponsorships mainly crafted the children of Tondo, Manila. She is also actively contributing and supporting an organization that provides free testing, education, and treat to AIDS/ HIV affected individuals.

The annual celebration of National Arts Month with its new music ambassador Julie Anne San Jose.Dubbed as Asia’s Pop Princess, Julie Anne San Jose was first seen on television when she joined and became one of the finalists in Eat Bulaga’s Little Miss Philippines when she was three years old. In 2005, she joined Popstar Kids and eventually became part of GMA’s Sunday show, SOP and Party Pilipinas. She released her self-titled album in 2012. She received multiple awards such as 24th Aliw Awards – Best Teen Performer in 2011; 43rd Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards – Promising Female Singer/Performer and 60th FAMAS Awards – German Moreno Youth Achievement Award in 2012; 5th PMPC Star Awards for Music – Female PP Artist of the Year and New Female Recording Artist of the Year, 26th Awit Awards – Best R&B, 9th USTv Students Choice Awards – Best Local Music Video Artist, Yahoo! Philippines OMG! Awards – Female Performer of the Year, and 8th MYX Music Awards – Favorite Mellow Video for “I’ll Be There” in 2013; Spinnr Hitlist Award 2014 – Best Indie Artist, ASAP19 24k Gold Award – Female Artist Awardee, ASAP 10th Platinum Circle Award – Female Artist Awardee, Catholic Mass Media Awards – Best Secular Song (Pagbangon), Yahoo! Celebrity Awards – Song of the Year, UE Gawad Lualhati Awards – Inspiring Artist Of The Year in 2014; 28th Await Awards – Best Selling Album of the Year for “Deeper” and 10th MYX Music Awards – Favorite Mellow Video for “Right Where You Belong” in 2015; Female Pop Artist Of The Year – PMPC Star Awards For Music in 2017; and 66th FAMAS Awards – German Moreno Youth Achievement Award in 2018.

Music ambassador KZ Tandingan will once again join the national celebration. Last year, Tandingan gave a fresh and exceptional rendition of National Arts Month theme song, Ani ng Sining, composed and originally sang by Joey Ayala. Tandingan started singing as a child and was a member of a local acoustic band before joining The X Factor Philippines in 2012 and became the grand winner. In 2013, she joined the Himig Handog contest with the song entry titled “Scared to Death,” and released her self-titled debut album. In 2018, when Singer 2018 in China materialized, international fans laud Tandingan’s unique and creative musical artistry in different music genre and became one of the most talked in social media. Despite not getting the top spot, she returned as a guest singer for a performance with English singer and songwriter Jessie J. Throughout her career, she received several recognitions in music awards like Awit Awards, MYX Music Awards, and Wish 107.5 Music Awards.

The theme of this year’s festivity is “Ani ng Sining” (Harvest of the Arts) which emphasizes the ample artistic activities in the country with Filipino artists and cultural workers’ passion.
