“Yam Mercado” will undoubtedly melt your heart!

Chris William Mercado known as “Yam Mercado”.  A 24-year old cutie from Batangas.

A typical neighborhood kid from San Jose, Batangas. A proud product of Galamay-Amo Elementary school, also completes his secondary and tertiary education at De La Salle Lipa (DLSL)  with a bachelor’s degree in AB Communication. While growing up, Yam enjoyed a close bond with his siblings— Charles, Chrislene and Charlene.

“Makulit, komedyante, kiti-kiti, parang nakaabang sila lagi sa mga ibabanat kong jokes. That is how I am defined
by my friends and closest allies” says Yam.

“My parents also reminded me to always be mindful of my decisions and to treat others with kindness since I was a child and until now. When things get difficult, always take a diplomatic approach — It’s always been my family who have been the strongest influences in my life.  Also, my mentor Roger Basco, who has been my coach noong nasa contemporary dance ako for the past twelve years,” Yam continued.

What prompted you to pursue a career in show business? “I’ve always wanted to perform since I was a kid. I recall mirroring all of my favorite television shows and advertisements. Mga four or five years old ako noon. Then, right before I finished my bachelor’s degree, I started making these detailed plans in my mind about how I was going to see myself on television. I used to work as an intern at a publishing company and  dream about them writing an article for me one day.  Tapos sa  isang tv network  sa – ad prom department  I remember pumasok ako sa office na nakaboots tapos white shirt and long sleeves, todo porma ako (kasi nga papansin) tapos taga bitbit pala ako ng mga 50 paper bags ni Coco Martin na ipamigay sa mall show.  Afterwards, nag workshop ako and had the opportunity to meet Sir Kristian Kabigting (Founder and CEO -Asterisk Entertainment)

Achievement are you most proud of? “I think it’s okay to have a high standard, right? So, though I’m not quite there yet, I was able to see myself on television and that today is part of the revelation of what I did yesterday. So I am proud of my today! Ang baduy di ba? but I’m beginning to think that “today” is the answer to all of my questions”

What would you do differently if you had a chance? Ahhh, I think I should have put in more effort, work harder and put a higher value on my time. Pero sabi nga nila, kanya kanyang oras. Pana-panahon.  As a matter of fact, I’m catching up!

What about an aspect about yourself that you’ll want to improve?  “To be more accepting of  kung anong meron lang ako at hindi ko kayang ibigay ang mga bagay na wala ako.  That insecurities really hold us back in to reaching our full potentials.  And I’m actually working on it” he says with a hearty smile.

Can you describe a scene of your vision for the future?  He said “Personally, I am looking forward to traveling the world with my own family and settling into a bukid life. A thriving and comfortable life! But for now, I’d like billboards all over Edsa, as well as television shows and movies.  For the world ? Where negativity could not grow and foster!”
